Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel

Monday May 5, 2008
Fanny Mendelssohn lived at a time when opportunities for women were strictly limited. Although a brilliant composer and pianist, Fanny's father discouraged her from pursuing a career in music. Her brother, Felix, on the other hand, was given encouragement and support. Yet despite that, Fanny and Felix remained close throughout their lives. She was married to Wilhelm Hensel and they had one son, Sebastian, named after her favorite composer Johann Sebastian Bach.
