Alma Schindler was an Austrian author and composer who mainly wrote songs based on poems written by poets like Heine and Rilke. She married composer Gustav Mahler on March 9, 1902 and they had two daughters.

Music Education in the News: In the past few months there have been several instances when musicians lost their instruments. Take the case of violinist Philippe Quin who left his 1723 Antonio Stradivari violin in a cab. Luckily, the cab driver is an honest man and returned the violin to its owner.

This Day in Music History: 1846 - Composer Camille Saint-Saëns made his formal public performance at the age of 10.
