Samuel Osborne Barber II was another influential American composer, teacher and songwriter of the 20th century whose work reflected European Romantic traditions. His famous works include "Dover Beach," a poem written by Matthew Arnold which Barber set to music, and the hauntingly beautiful "Adagio for Strings."
