Patrick Sarsfield Gilmore
Patrick Sarsfield Gilmore was a bandleader, cornet soloist, songwriter, also known as the "Father of the American Band" and "Father of Military Bands." One of Gilmore's most famous work is the song "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" which was originally published under his pseudonym - Louis Lambert.
This Day in Music History: 1957 - Composer Jean Sibelius died in Ainola. He was a Finnish composer, conductor and teacher especially known for his orchestral works and symphonies. He composed "Finlandia" in 1899; a very powerful composition that made Sibelius a national figure.
