During the Middle Ages, music was seen as a gift from God and making music was a way of praising the heavens for that gift. By the 14th century however, sacred music was overcome by secular music; a type of music that dealt with non-religious themes.
This Day in Music History: 1898 - George Gershwin was born in Brooklyn, New York, U.S.A.. Gershwin was one of the prominent composers and songwriters of the 20th century. He composed scores for Broadway musicals and wrote some of the most memorable songs of our time, including "I've Got a Crush on You," "I Got Rhythm" and "Someone to Watch Over Me."
