"The Stars and Stripes Forever"

Monday November 9, 2009

John Philip Sousa once said, "I can almost always write music; at any hour of the twenty-four, if I put pencil to paper, music comes ." However, when it came to his most famous work, "The Stars and Stripes Forever" which he composed in his head while on board a ship, the chance to put it down to pen and paper came much later.

This Day in Music History: 1974 - The album Wrap Around Joy by Carole King hits #1. Her well-crafted lyrics, captivating melodies and her unique voice make her songs timeless. She is the artist behind hits like "So Far Away" and "It's Too Late" and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1987.
