This Day in Music History: 1895 - Paul Hindemith was born in Hanau, Germany. He was a German music theorist, teacher, string player and composer during the 20th century. He was the professor of composition at Berlin's Academy of Music from 1927 to 1937 and taught at Yale University from 1940 to 1955. Hindemith also received honorary doctorates from the University of Frankfurt, the Free University of Berlin and Oxford University.
