Cabbage Head and 200+ Other Words You Can Spell Using Musical Notes

In search of a fun code? Try the musical alphabet. The following list of words can be rendered as musical notes, A to H. Although most of the world uses only the letters A to G for musical note names, in Germany, Scandinavia, and a few other places, it is common to use H to mean B natural and B for B flat. This practice grew out of the 10th-century custom of using separate noteheads for B flat (round) and B natural (square). By J. S. Bach’s time, the shapes had become replaced with the B and H note shapes and then simply the note names, used with what we now consider to be the standard shapes. Bach and many of his fans (including Harold Schoenberg, Alfred Schnittke, Robert Schumann, and some composers whose last names don’t begin with S) famously took advantage of the B/H naming distinction, sneaking the “Bach motif” (Bb A C B-natural) into various compositions.

American musicians typically don’t follow this B/H practice, in casual parlance, except when engaging in similar musical/wordplay.

So, here's a list of words you can spell solely with note names (including H), including a handful of proper nouns and even a couple of abbreviations.
