Carol of the Day
"Carol of the Bells" is a beautiful tune not only perfect for Christmas, but also to welcome the New Year. The original title of this music was "Schedryk" and it is a traditional Ukranian song. In the 1920s, the song reached the United States. The composer Peter J. Wilhousky made changes to the lyrics, tempo and gave the song a new title. Today, we know this hauntingly beautiful tune as "Carol of the Bells."
Composer of the Day
Thomas Tallis was an English composer known for his mastery of contrapuntal techniques. Although there is little information about his early years, it is known that composer William Byrd became one of his pupils.
Today in Music History
On this day in 1851, Eugenie, one of Robert and Clara Schumann's children, was born.
