Carol of the Day
Time to dust-off those Christmas song books and start getting ready for the season of carols. What I love about carols is that they never grow old, in fact, they have become a part of our Christmas tradition. This one is about our favorite snowman - Frosty.
Composer of the Day
Jean-Baptiste Lully also known by his Italian name as Giovanni Battista Lulli, was a violinist in Louis XIVs court band and later became the King's court composer. Lully helped establish the French opera and overture styles. He is said to be very ambitious to the point of being ruthless and many intrigues followed him, especially at the height of his career.
Today in Music History
On this day in 1883, composer Anton Webern was born in Vienna, Austria. Webern was an Austrian composer belonging to the 12-tone Viennese school. His mother was his first teacher; she taught Webern how to play the piano. Later on, Edwin Komauer took over his piano instruction and taught him about music theory as well. Some of his famous works are "Passacaglia, op. 1," "Im Sommerwind" and "Entflieht auf leichten Kähnen, Opus 2."
