Composer of the Day
Paul Hindemith was a German music theorist, teacher, string player and composer during the 20th century and was a leading exponent of Gebrauchsmusik or "utility music." His major works include "Cardillac," "Symphonic Metamorphoses After Themes by Carl Maria von Weber" and the controversial opera, "Mathis der Maler," which was banned by the Nazi party.
Today in Music History
On this day in 1915, singer Edith Piaf was born in Paris, France. Piaf had a difficult childhood but with her determination, she became one of France's notable singers. Her songs include "La Vie en Rose," "The Three Bells," "I'll Remember Today," "Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien" and "What Can I Do?"
