Author: Written by Edmund Hamilton Sears (1810-1876) who was also the pastor of the Unitarian Church in Wayland, Massachusetts. The lyrics of the said carol appeared on the Christian Register in 1849. Ten years later, Richard Storrs Willis, an Amemrican composer/musician, created the melody for "It Came Upon A Midnight Clear".
Interesting Fact: Richard Storrs Willis is said to have been a student of Felix Mendelssohn.
It came upon the midnight clear, That glorious song of old,
From angels bending near the earth,
To touch their harps of gold:
"Peace on the earth, goodwill to men
From heavens all gracious King!"
The world in solemn stillness lay
To hear the angels sing.
