Title: Joy to the World

Author: The lyrics was written by Isaac Watts (1674-1748), also known as the "Father of English Hymnology." Watts wrote the lyrics in 1719. The melody was composed by Lowell Mason (1792-1872), a composer of church music.

Interesting Fact: It is believed that the melody for "Joy to the World" was partly based on the work of George Frideric Handel, specifically the oratorio Messiah.

Lyrics (Excerpt):
Joy to the world, the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing.

Joy to the earth, the Savior reigns! Let men their songs employ;
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy.
