Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in Kentucky. His parents were Thomas Lincoln and Nancy Hanks Lincoln. He was nicknamed "Honest Abe." In 1869, Lincoln became the 16th President of the United States. On April 14, 1865, Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth at the Ford's Theatre. Lincoln died the following day on April 15th.
Numerous compositions were made during the time of Lincoln's military and political career. The Library of Congress has made available on their website "We'll Sing to Abe Our Song." It is a compilation of over 200 music pieces depicting Lincolns' life; from his presidential campaign to his death, and other relevant historical events.
