VocabularyWhole Step, let's say you are on C, go two notes to the right, first note will be a black key (C# or Db), second note will be a white note which is D, that's a whole step. Let's say you are on E, first note will be a white key (F), second note will be a black key (F# or Gb), that's a whole step.

Activity
  1. Make a posterboard of a piano keyboard with all the keys labeled. Say a note name and ask student to move a whole-step up or a whole-step down and ask what note it is.
  2. You can also use a felt board with an illustration of a keyboard and the keys labeled. The letters should be detachable. Say a note name and ask student to detach the note a whole-step up or down the keyboard.
