American Idol premiered in 2002 on Fox. Now on its 6th season, it's quite evident that this reality-based singing competition still holds the viewers captive. With the combination of three panel judges namely Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson, Ryan Seacrest as host and viewer participation by means of voting, this show continues to enjoy popularity. Past winners are Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood and Taylor Hicks.

Making the Band premiered in 1999 on ABC and then transferred to MTV. Now on its 4th installment, this show aims to discover new talents which will become part of a group of performers. The show also follows the winning performers as they embark on tours, perfromances and interviews. The first season produced the 4 members of the boy band O-Town. On Making the Band 2 (2002), the hip-hop group Da Band was formed. On Making the Band 3 (2005), the all-female singing group Danity Kane was formed. Making the Band 4 is now auditioning for an all-male group.

Grease - You're The One That I Want! is the newest talent show on NBC. The competition aims to choose the leads for the Broadway production of Grease set to premiere in June of this year. The three judges are David Ian, Kathleen Marshall and Jim Jacobs and the show is hosted by Billy Bush and Denise Van Outen. Viewers can also join in the action by voting for their favorites.
