The Eastman School of Music was established in 1921 by George Eastman (founder of Eastman Kodak Company). The school has over 95 faculty members; the student/total faculty ratio is said to be 6:1. The current dean of Eastman is composer and conductor Douglas Lowry.
The school also offers Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) and Doctor of Philosophy degrees (PhD). Facilities in this school include a huge music library, computer music center, a lab and recording studio.
