Founded in 1867 by Eben Tourjée; it is considered the oldest and leading music conservatory in the U.S.. Students perform in concerts led by reputable conductors. Their library is equipped with video and sound recordings; the conservatory also has an electronic music studio.
In June 2007, Tony Woodcock became NEC's President. Thomas Novak is the current dean of the college.
