The Piano Duet

Piano Four Hands

By , About.com Guide

The piano duet, also known as "piano four hands" is a type of chamber music in which two pianists play on the same keyboard. Piano teachers often use pieces for piano duets to address technical issues such as sight reading and rhythm. Aside from helping a student improve his/her playing, piano duets are fun to play and wonderful to listen to.

Composers who wrote piano duets include:

  • Pyotr Il'yich Tchaikovsky
  • Igor Stravinsky
  • Franz Joseph Haydn
  • Robert Schumann
  • Felix Mendelssohn

There are many published books that cater to those interested in piano duets. One publisher in particular is Alfred's, they have several volumes of books devoted to piano duets such as Easy Classical Piano Duets Book 1 (Compare Prices)
