Also known as:

He is also known as Gilles Egidius Binchois, De Binche and Gilles de Bins. He was a member of the Burgundian court chapel and organist at Mons Cathedral.

Type of Compositions:

He wrote church music, secular chansons and motets; his music defines the Burgundian style.

Selected Works:

Some of his known works are composed of over 60 courtly chansons and approximately 50 sacred music pieces. His most famous works are "Triste plaisir" and "Dueil angoisseux".

Interesting Facts:

Binchois is believed to have also been a soldier employed by the Earl of Suffolk during the English occupation of France. He was with the chapel of Philip III the Good of Burgundy from 1430 to 1460, where he became cantor and second chaplain.
