The word "baroque" comes from the Italian word "barocco" which means bizarre. The Baroque period was a time when composers experimented with form, styles and instruments. This period saw the development of opera and instrumental music. Here are several notable composers during this period.

This Day in Music History: 1829 - Female composer Fanny Mendelssohn married Wilhelm Hensel. Fanny was a talented pianist, a composer of lieder and chamber music, She was the oldest of 4 children and the sister of composer Felix Mendelssohn.
