The Harp

A plucked string instrument that can sometimes be seen in a symphony orchestra is the harp. It is one of the oldest and beautiful-sounding instruments of the string family. The exact roots of the harp may be difficult to determine, but it certainly has a rich and colorful history. Generally, there are two types of harps: the pedal and non-pedal harp. This Day in Music History: 1928 - Vocalist Leyla Gencer was born in Turkey. She made her debut in 1950 in Cavalleria Rusticana as Santuzza. She is especially known for her interpretation of Gaetano Donizetti's works.
