Composer of the Day
Ferruccio Busoni was an Italian/German composer and concert pianist of the 20th century. Aside from his operas and compositions for the piano, Busoni edited the works of other composers including Bach, Beethoven, Chopin and Liszt. His last opera, "Doktor Faust," was left unfinished but was later completed by one of his students.
Today in Music History
On this day in 1921, composer Camille Saint-Saëns died in Algeria. Saint-Saëns wrote symphonies, piano and violin concertos, suites, opera and tone poem, among others. One of his famous works is "The Swan," a soothing piece from his ensemble suite "Carnival of the Animals."
